Steampunk Mona Lisa Cabinet with glass door
This cabinet has an interesting trim on the door front, and I wanted to showcase that. So I did a reverse decoupage with a fabulous steampunk Mona Lisa image.
I then crackled the paint on the edges of the frame and added 3d gears and cogs, also crackled…. Then came the fun part..
I used real rust and verdigris from FLEUR and let loose on the unit top…I then activated the chemical reaction and was in awe watching it take place. I sealed the top once I had stopped the chemical reaction and was satisfied with it. For the unit sides I created a raised effect for various steam punk icons, and once dry applied the rust and verdigris medium..
The point of this medium is that you have to give up control of the outcome…. Which if you know me was really hard at first..But then I leaned into it and am really happy with the end result. It has been varnished and cured so will be softy to touch, and should be maintained with a soft baby wipe, better yet always try to use a coaster when placing hot or cold drinks on.
